Rebuilding the mobile experience for a Middle East QSR leader
Cross-platform customer and drive-through apps - faster, more reliable, and rebuilt on React Native and Expo.
Slow, failure-prone apps and a drive-through app that only ran on Android, were holding back a brand serving millions of customers.

Faster, more reliable apps - on every platform.
A prominent Middle East restaurant brand serving millions of customers partnered with Sedin to strengthen its mobile delivery apps, with skilled technical resources brought in ahead of a 2020 product launch. The existing apps were slow to start, failed too often, and left the drive-through experience on Android only.
- Cut a 5% service failure rate and 140ms query times
- Bring the drive-through app to iOS, not just Android
- Add real error tracking, performance monitoring, and smoother deployments
Common questions
Expo (React Native) gave both the customer and drive-through apps reliable cross-platform compatibility from one codebase — so the drive-through experience could reach iOS without a separate native build.
Existing queries were re-indexed for Rails, cutting response times from 140ms to 40ms, while robust error tracking with Sentry and end-to-end testing with Maestro brought the service failure rate down from 5% to roughly 0.5%.
End-to-end tests with Maestro, Sentry performance and error monitoring, and streamlined deployment processes give the team ongoing visibility and a dependable release path.
Roughly one in twenty requests was failing, and a slow data layer made everything feel sluggish. We re-indexed the queries, moved to GraphQL, and put real monitoring in place. The apps got dependable and stayed that way.
Rebuild cross-platform, then make it fast and dependable.
STEP
01
Cross-platform rebuild
React Native for the customer and drive-through apps, with an Expo migration for true cross-platform compatibility.
02
Performance & data layer
Rails query indexing cut response times from 140ms to 40ms; GraphQL improved data handling.
03
Testing & monitoring
End-to-end testing with Maestro, plus Sentry for error capture and performance monitoring.
04
Deployment & automation
Automated post-development processes and streamlined, seamless deployments across platforms.
05
Future-ready architecture
Architecture and configuration improvements to support ongoing app development.
More reliable, much faster, and on every platform.
0.5%
Service failure rate
Down from 5% — roughly a tenfold drop in failed requests.
40ms
Query response time
Down from 140ms after Rails query indexing and a move to GraphQL.
2 apps
Now cross-platform
Customer and drive-through apps on iOS and Android — the drive-through was Android-only.
The bottom line
Dependable, faster apps on both platforms — with error tracking, monitoring, and streamlined deployments in place for a brand serving millions, delivered ahead of the 2020 launch.
